Beatified in 2018, Christian de Cherge, a French Trappist monk was prior of Our Lady of Atlas Monastery in Tibherine, Algeria when in 1996 he and six members of his community were kidnapped and killed. The film “Of Gods and Men,” depicted their decision to remain with their Algerian-Muslim neighbors, even when knowing their lives were at risk.
